Private tutor in Fallbrook, CA
Education
Physics Major at Mira Costa College transferring to UC Santa Cruz in the fall for Astrophysics.
Experience
I currently tutor math in the Math Learning Center at Mira Costa College, and find it enormously rewarding. I especially enjoy helping students who have had past struggles with the subject. I have received A's in every Math and Physics course I've taken which include all three Calculus courses and Discrete Mathematics, as well as the entire series of calculus based Physics courses. I also received the highest score at my college in the AMATYC (which is a national mathematics competition) When I returned to school to study physics - Sidenote: I had previously been a philosophy major and the demand for philosophers is not what it once was :) - It had been quite some time since I'd taken a real math course. I understand what a struggle it can be, and the true importance of having a strong foundational knowledge of the subject. Perhaps it was the philosophy background, but I always insisted on the "why", never relying on just memorizing some technique. Einstein said it best when he said, "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough". I've worked very hard to achieve a level of understanding that allows me to explain it simply.

Hobbies
Outside of my interests in Physics and Astronomy, I love to play basketball, go on hikes, and spend time with my basset hound. I also enjoy playing the piano and listening to old-school blues. I'm currently attempting to hone my culinary skills in my pursuit of the perfect bowl of chili, and I always enjoy a good laugh. I feel that when approaching a difficult task it is best to do so with a well developed sense of humor. I've yet to meet the student who performs better when stressed, and try to make the math and physics, dare I say it, fun.
