My educational background includes a B.A. in English from San Diego State University and an M.A. in English from Portland State University. While completing my degrees, I took high-level math classes. I am currently working to become a certified teacher through CSU San Marcos. I plan to teach math and English to high school students once I complete the program.I have experience tutoring math and English at various levels, and helping students prepare for the ACT and SAT. I teach strategies aimed at preparing high school students for college. I want to provide students with skills that they can apply to any subject, whether or not they possess a natural aptitude for it. Some of the greatest satisfaction for me comes from helping students that are having difficulties. It is rewarding to have a part in them finally grasping material that they have previously found troublesome.I can also help students develop good study skills, and determine the best ways to understand, digest, and analyze the material they are learning. Whether it's algebra, geometry, reading, writing, or public speaking, I work with each student as an individual to find his or her strengths.My non-academic interests include reading, writing, baseball, fly fishing, backpacking, and camping.
